Patton ForeFront 5442

Overview

The Patton FF5442 is an access multiplexing, aggregation and transport platform that supports inter-networking of various access interfaces and trunks onto E1 or T1 lines for convenient backhaul and switching. The unit provides access for a wide variety of TDM, voice, serial and packet interfaces.

Acting as miniature Cross Connect: one or more of the WAN ports can be used as a Drop & Insert port where sub-rate interfaces and fractional E1/T1 lines can be groomed or multiplexed on a full E1/T1 line.

As an Access Multiplexer, the unit is designed to combine digital access interfaces, including TDM, IP, and Voice interfaces for convenient transport and switching.

A controller module delivers a non- blocking Nx64K cross-connect matrix for up to 2048 DS0’s. The FF5440 can be used as a gateway into the IP networks using TDM-over-Packet, circuit emulation technologies including TDMoE and TDMoIP. The devices also support Circuit Emulation using CESoPSN (Nx64K) and SAToP (Unframed E1/T1).

Redundancy is available by way of dual CPU controller cards and power supply options, making the product an excellent fit for critical applications.

Management, control, and diagnostics can be done using the local console port (VT-100 terminal), or remotely managed using Ethernet, Telnet, and SNMP. An in-band management channel with GUI is also available. LED indicators are included on the networking plugin cards.

The platform is designed for Carrier-Class mission critical installations. The chassis is made of rugged reinforced aluminum for durability and the unit comes with dual controller and power modules for resilience and redundancy.

Applications

The FF5442 allows circuit-switched (T1/E1) and sub-rate interfaces (FXS, FXO, E&M, RS-232, V.35, X.21 etc.), to be digitally cross-connected, rearranged, transmuxed (signal conversion) interconnected, and aggregated. Traffic from these interfaces can also be delivered over Packet Switched Networks using TDMoE, TDMoIP or Circuit Emulation using CESoPSN and SAToP.

Carrier Class - An ETSI style shelf (frontal card access) is equipped with 2 Controller Slots, 2x DC Power Supply Slots (1-Primary & 1-Back-up of each) or 1x AC Power Supply Slot and 9 Networking Slots.

Digital Access Cross Connect - The system provides full DS0 level DACS (Digital Access Cross-Connect System) capabilities with full non-blocking nx64K support with load sharing.
Multiplexing - Including ADM (Add Drop Mux) Drop & Insert capabilities.
Management and Control - Management is performed using a Console (VT-100 terminal), Telnet, Web GUI and/or In-band management with SNMP v.1 and v.3. Native network management and full interoperability with 3rd party SNMP-based GUI network management systems. Supports RADIUS authentication.
Network and Circuit Protection - E1/T1/FOM 1+1 network protection, DS0 Level Nx64K circuit protection and PDH ring protection (QE1/QT1, FOM, Mini QE1/QT1)
Extensive Inter-Networking Protocol Support - Provides PWE3 Services (RFC 3985) for carrying networking services (such as ATM, Ethernet, TDM, and SONET/SDH) over a packet-switched network (PSN) including Framed E1/T1 (CESoPSN, and MEF8 for circuit emulation of TDM over IP), Unframed E1/T1: SAToP (pseudowire encapsulation according to RFC 4553) and PDH Clock Recovery (ACR/System Clock per PW configurable).
