Using Internet based telephony service saves companies a lot
of money. Under current economic conditions more than ever,
every penny saved is another penny earned. However, losing
the old telephone number even for a day means losing all
contacts with the existing customer base. This would most
certainly translate into a massive revenue loss with
customers growing ever so fickle. However, thanks to the
venerable SmartNode and new number portability regulations,
service provider migrations can be literally seamless.

Service provider change is as easy as following steps:
Step 1: Customer signs up to an alternative Internet
Telephony Service Provider (ITSP)
Step 2: New provider initiates number transfer from the old
PSTN service provider. This can usually take one to six
weeks.
Step 3: New provider sends a technician on-site to install
SmartNode VoIP gateway. The SmartNode is installed between
PSTN network and customers PBX.
Step 4: In SmartNode, all the outgoing calls are routed to
new internet telephone provider instead of going through
PSTN. Customer starts saving on outgoing calls right away.
In the mean while, all the incoming calling from old PSTN
service provider is still routed by Smartnode to customer's
PBX. No revenue interrupt happens.
Step 5: After one to six weeks, customers telephone number
(301-123-4567) is ported to new provider and lines from old
provider are disconnected.
Step 6: Incoming calls are now coming from new provider. No
new installation trip is needed.
Switching is just as simple as this. Customer wouldnt
notice any changes. Of course, their telephone bill drops
significantly.
Following SmartNode features enable this service:
-
Additional voice ports to route calls through SmartNode
-
Call router able to accept calls from different networks and
forward
-
Call router able to have primary and secondary destinations
and route calls based on available network.
Stay tuned, in the next VoIP news, we will show you how to
